Well I guess it was inevitable, I dropped my cell phone in the briny with the mermaids. I have never even dropped it out of my pocket on the floor, so It goes to figure the first drop would be a splash hit. It may sound crazy, but I am so mellowed out, it doesn’t even bother me. The cost of course is not a good thing and that phone was a gift from Rebecca Wahlenmeier, so I feel bad about that.
I was setting anchor in the anchorage near Shelter Island and having a little problem putting the stopper in place, got down on my hands and knees to struggle with it and the phone just squirted out.
La Playa is not nearly as beautiful as Glorietta Bay in Coronado, but still pretty nice. Since I don’t have a phone and no internet, I am waiting for another cruiser to pass by and let me know if there is a city dinghy dock near by. I can and have sent a text message to Jennifer on my satellite phone so I am not totally out of phone power. It just cost $10 a minute to talk, so texting it will be. Once I make it to shore, I will buy some hoses for the new toilet and look into a throw away phone. More later!!
It’s later, and I have just had a lazy day. Got a little accomplished, but no records. The wind was blowing quite hard, making it difficult to put the dinghy motor on the dinghy. It’s almost 6:30 and I just finished my Friday meal. Veal Scaloppini, mashed potatoes and broccoli spears.
With a glass of white wine (picture below). I think when I have what I consider a special meal, I will provide the recipe. Of course I won’t tell you how to cook potatoes or broccoli, but the Scaloppini might catch your eye.
Veal Scaloppini (some folks use chicken or pork as a substitute for veal). Most good butcher shops will have Scaloppini veal and will even pound it for you. Cook about 1/3 lb. per person. 1st put some olive oil in a skillet and cook at medium heat, put a good chunk of butter in the pan, the oil keeps it from burning. Next place floured veal pieces (2” square) in the pan and brown them also put a sprig of rosemary in with meat. Next pour a small amount of white wine in after the meat is brown. Throw in some sliced mushrooms, cover and let simmer about 10 minutes. That’s it.
Along with the picture of the Scaloppini is a picture of the San Diego Yacht Club.
