Walnut Grove and Surrounding Area

Now that you’re familiar with my new job, I thought you might be interested in this area of California. I will start with the Historic District of Locke. It is located one mile north of Walnut Grove on the east side of the Sacramento River. The town was built in 1915 by Chinese immigrants and named after George Locke.

Downtown Locke

There is a common misconception, that Locke was named after The Delta Cross Channel Connection that is located between Locke and Walnut Gove. Even though it looks like a Locke, it doesn’t function as a Locke. It is actually a gateway, that when opened allows smaller boats (clearance is just about 8 feet) to travel between The Delta and the Sacramento River.

The Delta Cross Channel

The Delta Cross Channel has been closed most of this year due to high water on The Sacramento River and too much debris floating down the River.
