I can’t believe I just did what I did. First of all, I always said I wouldn’t go out on the Ocean alone. You can kiss that saying goodbye. I just got tired of crew thinking they could get from point A to B in their timeframe. Don’t get me wrong, I appreciate everything that every crew member has done for me and the list is too long to cover here.
Putting all that aside, once Brandon and Sarah had to leave(the weather window closed), I decided since I don’t sleep that much and Footloose has autopilot and since the steering cable broke, I was forced to use autopilot. I did 2 sets of 48 hours or more, the first from Bahia San Juanico to Bahia Tortugas, then from Bahia Tortugas to Ensenada.
When at San Juanico, I met 3 fishermen, Juan, Juan and Juan(can you believe that, Juan’s on Juanico), I bought 1 small Halibut and they gave me 2. Thankfully since it is as good of Halibut as I’ve ever had. I gave them $20 usd which is why they gave me 2. Mainly the $20 was for taking my trash ashore.
I also met a couple of Canadians (Alex and Sarah)who really gave confidence in doing the solo thing. They were also going to Bahia Tortugas, so we decided to buddy up. They were slower than I, so I said I would follow them, turns , they didn’t have AIS or radar, so I couldn’t see them at night, even with my radar. So I made the decision to lead and got to Tortugas a few hours before them.
Another couple (Eric and Annie) from a Catamaran “El Gato”, by the way their dinghy is named “El Raton”.El Gato and El Raton translated is, cat and mouse. Eric was kind enough to come over and help me up anchor.
I have decided to name my dinghy “Fancy Free”, thanks Eric and Annie.
