Decided to get up early and head for shore to find a dinghy dock and a Starbucks for the free wifi spot. Found a dinghy dock right away and noticed that every dinghy was cable locked to the dock (not a good sign). Sausalito for example, maybe 1 out of 10 would have a lock. There was some theft, but usually if you left your dinghy over night unlocked. Since I was just going to be gone for a couple of hours and there were plenty of people around, I decided to leave the dinghy unlocked.
The distance I ended up walking was, once again, too far and my hip was barking at me after the first 1/2 mile. I did however end up at a Starbucks in Little Italy( compares to North Beach). I was able to retrieve my mail, send a couple Blogs to Jenn and tried to let every one know what is happening.
I started my trek back to the dinghy dock around 1pm and guess what, my dinghy was gone. Bad decision not locking it up. Won’t make that mistake again. Since I don’t have a cell phone, I got some nice people sitting on their boat fishing to call the Harbor Police. I then started walking toward downtown and saw my dinghy bobbing up and down against a rock breaker wall. Some Good Samaritan named Sean had tied it the rocks as it was floating free. I guess someone wanted to teach me a lesson and untied the dinghy and let it go. Well, lesson learned.
I was able to cancel the police call before they got there and all I had to do was crawl out on the rocks and get in the dinghy. No easy task, but got it accomplished.
While sitting outside of Starbucks contemplating my navel a bunch of planes were landing and I got a picture of an Alaska (thinking of Jim Barron) and a Southwest (thinking of Farrell).
