Before I start relaying my experiences on my Journey sailing to Australia, it’s probably a good idea to let you who I am and why I chose this destination.

I am Frederick Charles George McClaine (named for father and both grand fathers). Born on December 13, 1939, thus qualifying me as an “Old Geezer” (to be used frequently). There are older sailors and ones in better shape physically than I, but there isn’t any sailor with more desire.

When I was a kid in 3rd grade in Calistoga, California some other kids and I were talking about someone’s family member dying in some far off place, not to be outdone, I said I was going to die in Australia. This probably qualifies me as a nut because at that age, I don’t think I even knew where Australia was, just someplace far away. Then after learning to sail on Carole Bakman’s Sunfish around Balboa Island in 1963, I decided to add a Viking Funeral to my destination. I also decided that I loved sailing.

Since I was in the 3rd grade in 1946, you could say I started planning this trip over 70 years ago and it’s time to put the plan in effect. Let the fun begin!!!
